One cannot easily give the meaning of photojournalism. In my own personal terms, i have come to see that photojournalism is creating an image that says a story. Most of the products of this type of journalism and photography combined can be seen in spreadsheets, news magazines and news journals.
These photos are far more striking than the ones taken commercially or for kicks. There have been awards given off to those who have exhibited exemplary photos that speak to the people. To some, the photo in itself tells the story; there is no need for words.
However, no matter how noble this title might be, it is still a dismay to realize that photojournalists are the ones we don't know. They are the ones who put pictures on the front page, on your postcards, on calendars and on advocacy brochures. We don't know their names, yet it is their message that we get the strongest.
Photojournalism is a passion. It is not just an occupation or something that you hold on to to pay the bills. Photojournalism becomes a passion even when you least expect it. So next time you read a newspaper, or a news magazine, look closely. There are people who speak a thousand words with just one photo.
